Shanghai based multi-media artist Lu Yang’s work straddles bio-art, lucid video game aesthetics and social engagement. Lu Yang is known for creating fantastical visions of death, sexuality, asexuality, mental illness, and neurological constructs of both real lifeforms and deities.
Yang’s work transformed Wallplay’s space as her first solo New York exhibition. The building’s facade featured her art on the billboards, as well as videos on the street-level screens. Wallplay’s concept counter will be integrated with coffee cups featuring her art as well. Lu Yang artist also showed selected videos for a curated show called “Video Room” at Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s Ventana244 space and performed on October 26th during Asian Contemporary Art Week’s two-day Field Meeting event.

ASIAN CONTEMPORARY ART WEEK (ACAW) is a platform merging leading New York and Asia-based art institutions, museums and galleries to present the largest showcase of cutting-edge exhibitions, innovative projects, provocative dialogues on current topics, and networking opportunities. Associate curator Xin Wang, who worked curated Lu Yang’s “Arcade” show is also the co-organizer of Field Meeting, where Yang will perform. Field Meeting is a two-day day forum designed to act as a “communal studio visit” for over 35 artists, performers, curators, and art institution leaders.
