ARGUS: THE FUTURE OF STREET WEAR AT COMPLEXCON
ARGUS: THE FUTURE OF STREETWEAR
November 5-6, 2016, Wallplay booth d4 at ComplexCon
IF POLICE WEAR BODY ARMOR TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM THE PUBLIC, WHAT MUST THE PUBLIC WEAR TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM THE POLICE?
Inspired by the greek myth of Argus—the giant with 100 eyes who served as eternal watchman both for and against the gods—The Argus Project tells the story of our collective awakening. The more we turn on our cameras, the more we are opening our eyes as a society to the realities of police violence—and showing the truth to the world.
Argus is a suit of body armour and wearable technology that serves as site-specific counter-surveillance for the citizen body. Visually evocative of both a superhero’s ensemble and a bullet-proof vest in design, with augmented muscles and padding, Argus is a futuristic sculpture for counter-surveilling the police; it is a non-violent response to a situation of violence. In the context of ComplexCon, Argus is presented as the ultimate piece of streetwear. Part portable device, video installation, and community organizing platform, it protects and serves both the wearer and the community at large.
ARGUS: The future of streetwear is curated by Wallplay & made possible by Marc Ecko.
