For his sophomore collection, 28-year-old designer Matthew Dolan held a gallery-style presentation at Wallplay, displaying his designs as photographed artwork. The looks, shot by photographer Michael Hauptman, created a real-life presentation feel to visitors. Following his presentation, a 2-day showroom was held, housing samples of his denim-heavy designs.
“Born in Danvers, Massachusetts and later immigrating to Sydney, Australia, Matthew Dolan graduated with First Class Honors in the combined B.Design in Fashion and Textile Design/ B.Arts in International Studies degree from the University of Technology, Sydney.
Attending Senior High School in rural Japan, and studying French/Swiss Literature and translation at the Université de Lausanne in Switzerland, he has always been exposed to the traditions of American craft through his mother who is an avid quilter and needleworker. This interest in the evolution of the American style continues to inform his work and played a key role in his decision to further his studies by undertaking the MFA Fashion Design and Society program at Parsons, graduating 2014.”
