Musician and designer John Kirby collaborates with Australian multidisciplinary artist Cara Stricker for the release of DROOL—an audiovisual album launching internationally.
Distributed by the genre-bending Brooklyn-based record label Terrible Records, DROOL was released digitally as well as published in limited quantity as an individualized digital cassette, film, art album, and digital video paired with live performances in Los Angeles and New York City. Customers who purchased the digital cassette will jointly receive an individualized love note with directions for full access to view and download the 40-minute film and 12-track album online at www.drooling.co
DROOL intends to transcend materiality and create a multisensory experience through its multimedia, experimental content. The album in conjunction with its visual components is an atemporal conceptual piece seeking to evoke a repetitive, meditative approach to physicality and sexuality. It bends genres of musicality to synthesize a new wave soundscape that also guides listeners through a rhythmic narrative. It employs nostalgia as a universal device for relating to the audience’s sensibilities about sex, equality, and unity, ultimately manifesting a “journey dictated by the audience.”
Cara Stricker hails from Australia, where she received her BS in Media Arts and Production and Film Production from the University of Technology, Sydney in 2010. She currently lives in Los Angeles and works as a multidisciplinary artist, frequently-published photographer, and curator. She is particularly inspired by intimacy and enjoys working in artistic collaborations across disciplines and spaces and continues her practice with the release of DROOL.
John Kirby currently lives and works in both New York City and Paris as a keyboardist, producer, songwriter and clothing designer. His collaborative work has delved into a variety of genres and features a range of artists such as Sebastien Tellier, Blood Orange, Kirin J Callinan, Kindness and Rodriguez. He is currently producing electronic music under the project title Naturalius.
