EXQUISITE CORPSE: GOODBYE 118 FEATURING MINT & SERF
June 30th – July 1st at 118 Orchard
EXQUISITE CORPSE was the final collaborative installation at Wallplay’s former 118 Orchard location, led by graffiti duo Mint & Serf.
EXQUISITE CORPSE was the final installation at Wallplay’s former 118 Orchard location, taking place on June 30th and July 1st 2016. For this collaboration, Wallplay worked with graffiti duo Mint & Serf to return its 118 Orchard location back to nature before it is set to be demolished in late July to make way for a luxury condo. The installation began with a billboard featuring “NYC Bollywood Princess” Richie Shazam, and over a 2 day period became a collaborative art piece, giving the corner of Orchard and Delancey a makeover reminiscent of the old New York.
Wallplay invited artists of all media to create room-based installations inside of its 2-story space, and the following evening held a closing event inside of the massive, collaborative installation.
Fittingly, Mint & Serf were featured on Wallplay’s first billboards and last billboards. The building, formerly the landmark yellow Sol Moscot was also returned to its original yellow before the installation began. As it begins, so it ends.
As sad as it is to say goodbye to the space (which will become a 12-story luxury condo) we are thrilled to be running a new 4,000 sq ft pop-up exhibition space in partnership with Gallery 151 in Chelsea. Our roots remain downtown, and you can still find us at our project shoplocated inside the storefront of The Hole at 312 Bowery.
